  • Woman Recounts Bear Attack As Caught Grizzly ID'd

One of the survivors of a deadly grizzly bear attack said Thursday she realized her only hope was to play dead after feeling the bear's jaw clamp onto her arm in the middle of the night. Wildlife officials were testing the DNA of a bear captured at the site of the early Wednesday mauling to confirm it was the animal that also killed a Michigan man and hurt another camper near Yellowstone National Park, but they said they were confident they had caught the right animals. "Something woke me up, and a split second later, I felt teeth grinding into my arm," Deb Freele of London, Ontario, said from a Wyoming hospital. "I realized, at that split second, I was being attacked by a bear, but I couldn't see it.

CHEYENNE, Wyo. AP - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has agreed to consider endangered species protection for a high-elevation pine tree devastated by beetles and fungus.Whitebark pines can be found in the harsh, high elevations of Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and western Canada. The trees have proven unusually vulnerable as mountain pine beetles have killed millions of acres of forest across the West in recent years. • Summer Reading List: Blisstree Readers' Best Book Suggestions

Though we have some of our own summer reading plans, we wanted to know what Blisstree readers were getting their noses into this season, so last week we put out a call for your best summer book recommendations. We even gave away a $25 Amazon.com gift card to a randomly chosen commenter as a big Thank You for your suggestions. We combed through your comments there were a lot and made a Blisstree reader s choice reading list: Here the 12 books that have the strongest recommendations, and made it onto our summer reading list. To find out more about what we re reading, check out our profile on goodreads, one of our favorite places to track our reading and find great user book reviews. The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger This is my favorite book and I am reading it again. Every time I go to the pool I take it with me and read a few pages. It is completely random and the main character is very blunt about everything which makes it very entertaining to read. It is a great escape from your daily stresses and I would recommend this book to anyone! Mackenna Coastliners by Joanne Harris I just finished this book, written by the woman who wrote Chocolat that got turned into a movie with Johnny Depp. It was fantastic! It took me less than 5 hours although Im a decently fast reader, it was also a pretty quick read, most of that being read on the beachher story really transports you to this little island off the coast of France, her writing style is lovely, and the storyline is captivating. Perfect for summer for sure! Maria The Dark Tower series by Stephen King I am on the third book, wizards and glass. It takes place in parallel universes with Roland the last gunslinger as the main character. I started reading the series years ago but stopped because Stephen King took many years to continue and finish the series. Anna Valentin The Help by Kathryn Stockett I was taken in immediately and it was difficult to say good-bye to so many characters I grew to love and admire. The writing was superb and the dialects gave a depth and authenticity to the story that might not have otherwise been there. I knew the relationships between blacks and whites in the south before and during this time period and even to this day were bad but I had no idea to what extent. The maids rearing of white children only to lose them in the end was terribly heartbreaking. It was a terrific story and written so well by a first-time author. Lyndall Klein I just read this for my book club and it was really interesting and had lots of humor. It was written from many different points of view and shed a lot of light on what life was like in the South during the Civil Rights era. Lindley A. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee I read it once every year. It is such a good book that it is worth reading over and over again. PauleyD A Murderous Procession A Mistress of the Art of Death Novel by Ariana Franklin These novels can be described as historical mysteries set during the reign of Henry II they're very cleverly wrought, featuring numerous richly developed characters , page-turner plots, and a setting so engaging that simply cannot wait to see what happens next. What else do you need in a summer read Mary Ellen McCord winner of our $25 Amazon.com gift card giveaway Outlander by Diana Gabaldon I m rereading this book. Historical romance, but so much more! Claire accidentally travels back in time to 1743 from 1945 and cant get back to her own time and before coming to the attention of a sadistic British officer. She needs protection and a handsome Scots outlaw offers to marry her. Can he keep her safe Terry D The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich This series is great, and the newest book just came out, so I plan to read that very soon. Her books are always good for a laugh. Kristy Storm Prey by John Sandford its a roller coaster ride. I dont want to finish it. Lucas Davenport is one of my favorite fictional heroes and this time the killer is after his wife, Weather! Yikes. A terrific read. Cynthia Shattered Silence: The Untold Story of a Serial Killers Daughter by Melissa G. Moore I read this in less than a week. I usually take longer to finish a book. I like it because she tells about HER life and good and bad things she saw in both of her parents. She doesnt go into how her dad murdered the women, so its really not very gruesome. She overcame a lot and she is very inspiring. Amanda The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd In a world where we all live on a schedule of limited time, I have still read and enjoyed this book at least five times in the last six years. It makes me cry every single time, and when I finish the book I feel rejuvenated and as though my heart has been warmed by hearing the story again. : Carrie The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell I just finished it last week and its an extremely interesting look at 17th-century American Lit mostly sermons and political discourse. Vowell is funny and insightful. I loved this book. Lori Z. Want more books to add to your shopping list Here are a few more reader suggestions that didn t make our list: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Wisner The Irresistible Henry House by Lisa Grunwald Push by Sapphire 1,000 White Women: The Journals of May Dodd by Jim Fergus The Wifes Tale: A Novel by Lori Lansen Stories: All-New Tales edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio Close Range: Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx How We Are Hungry by Dave Eggers The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2009 edited by Dave Eggers Night Shift by Stephen King Werewolves in Their Youth: Stories by Michael Chabon The Passage by Justin Cronin The Orchard Keeper by Cormac McCarthy Wilson by Daniel Clowes The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot Post from: BlissTree Summer Reading List: Blisstree Readers' Best Book Suggestions
